The idea was to have forum themes based on stages from different fighting games. A custom theme switcher was built using javascript and slick.js . When a user selects a stage from the menu the theme is changed automatically without the need to reload the page. Theme preference is saved for next time with a browser cookie.

The default forum layout was modified heavily to give the forum an old-school feel, and all themes were created from scratch. Customizations were done almost entirely with CSS.
